Intense vinyasa flows and long asana holds are not for everyone. Yoga nidra, however, is a practice that everyone, from children to seniors, can do. It's easy to follow at any age. All that your body needs to do is lie down on the floor. And even if you can't lie down on the floor, you can still do this practice seated.
Yin Yoga is a therapeutic and passive approach to yoga. It consists of 18-24 poses (asanas) that concentrate on the stimulation of particular meridians, or subtle channels. Its meditational nature allows the practitioner to focus on the parts of the body that are rich in connective tissue and cultivate inner stillness through holding the asanas for a longer period of time.
During the long hold times of the yin asanas, teachers usually give "dharma talks," informal monologues that often explain the physiology and anatomy of poses, including the meridian lines being affected. They may tell traditional Buddhist stories, recite poetry, sing songs, or reflect on their own experience.
